Racist and virulent comments won't be allowed

There's a new sheriff in town

By Trevor Greyeyes

There's a new sheriff in town who's big and brown with a big boot to take out anonymous virulent racist comments.

I am not going to enable stupid and racist people by allowing garbage to be posted to this website as long as I am webmaster.

Oh, I am going to check out the comments and unpublish those that cross the line like the following example:

Anonymous

Pam Palmater is a welfare queen. Mr Craig is speaking up for the taxpayers who are the one's who get fleeched by the usual low life's of society.

First of all I must ask what kind of stupid idiot makes such an outlandish, contemptible, racist and defamatory comment.

First of all, does Anonymous have any proof that Palmater is either on welfare or royalty?

Does anyone reading this realize how that statement represents absolute buffoonery?

For the record, Palmater is a Mi'kmaq lawyer, professor, activist and politician from Mi'kma'ki, New Brunswick, Canada.

Now to compound buffoonery with an egregious spelling error Anonymous uses the made up word “fleeched” when obviously “fleeced” was the word that should have been used.

Now, I would have let this comment stand as is if the person posting it had left their name and a contact email.

Hold on a sec, there, Greyeyes.

I can already hear the cries of “censorship!”

For example, I've heard this argument that neither state nor individual can force anyone else into revealing for which candidate a vote was cast.

True.

However, every voter is asked to produce some form of identification before being allowed to vote.

And for a true dialogue about issues, people must be willing to reveal their identities in order to participate in a discussion within a democracy.

A person on trial has the opportunity to face their accuser in a court of law.

All this anonymous posting crap in the mainstream media has done is given license to a whole group of cowards to post racist and defamatory shit without holding those people to any sort of accountability.

The price for anyone's freedom of speech is their name on the First Perspective website.

The reason is pretty obvious because if anyone is going to get sued for defamation, since in Manitoba libel and slander are rolled into The Defamation Act. I would rather it be the person posting the comment.

You can check out the legal statute itself (https://web2.gov.mb.ca/laws/statutes/ccsm/d020e.php).

True, at the same time that alone does not absolve any web entity from their legal responsibility but I think it would cut out most of the crap being posted in various comment sections.

Now, the reason why I mentioned Manitoba's defamation act is very simple.

As the webmaster, I merely have to go onto the website to find your IP address to find your service provider and even details like your home address.

So, the question I have to ask is do you feel brave today, punk.

I personally feel you don't have the Cajones to post that statement with your real name and email address.

And just in case you're going to claim that there is no way to post that information with your comment then I've prepared a short video on how to actually do it.

I thought I'd share another comment that was removed.

If its city land its our land and should be sold to the highest bidder. Period. You'll have lots of prospects wanting it and you can pick the best one near the top of the bids. When this city starts to run a surplus budget every year with money in the bank THEN they can consider giving something away. Its ours. Its not theirs to give.

When First Nations people stop drinking and drugging and thugging themselves into early graves, then they'll get some respect. Clean up!

The first paragraph is passable even though I would disagree with the idea that anything is the colonizers exclusively.

However, when someone resorts to stereotypes like those used in the last sentence, that is definitely crossing the line.

Lastly, I reserve the right to take your comment and totally mock said person and their comment.

Whatever Trevor

Dis is Trevor.
