Regional Media Officer– Temp (Until Nov 2015) –F/T Position

Office of the Leader of the Official Opposition / NDP Research Office

Location:131 Queen Street, Suite 10-02, Ottawa, ON


Communicate regularly with regional media outlets (community newspapers, radio stations, student media, ethnic media, etc.) to propose ideas for interviews and opinion content

Provide support to MPs and their staff in contacting media in their local ridings and in other regions

Assist MP offices with preparing press releases and other communications material

Assist with regional media monitoring on issues important to the work of the NDP

Maintain current regional and specialty media lists and contacts

Along with other media officers, answer enquiries from local media outlets

Support the organizing of local press conferences as required

Provide issue briefings and media preparation to MPs

Work collaboratively to advance the NDP caucus parliamentary goals and agenda

Perform other duties as assigned


Experience in media relations, including development and implementation of communications strategies

Knowledge of contemporary Canadian politics and parliamentary system

Familiarity with the New Democratic Party, its policies and structure

Knowledge of Canada’s politics and media

Proven ability to work to tight deadlines and under pressure

Excellent interpersonal communications, political judgment, computer and organizational skills

Ability to work well in a creative team environment

Excellent writing skills

Bilingualism is required



(salary levels subject to clauses 12 and 21 of the collective agreement)
