Letter: Kudos to Neil Young for promoting respect for treaties with First Nations

The Gazette (Montreal)

Re: “Neil Young reiterates criticism of oilsands” (Gazette, Jan. 14)

The great performer must be appreciated for organizing the “Honour the Treaties” tour, and for striving to respect many of the treaties signed with the First Nations communities.

The Toronto-born guitarist is right in campaigning against the breaking treaties by plundering the natural resources of many First Nation communities and thus depriving them of a safe environment. He is also on the right track in suggesting that we can do a better job, by developing clean energy, instead of despoiling the environment, through oil and gas exploration, in many treaty areas.
