Does this letter to editor suffice?

No offence meant

By Glenn Wright, The Starphoenix

So much in life depends on one's outlook.

As a former Bedford Road student I would have to agree that First Nations people certainly are not mascots.

They are people.

The purpose of any team name is to unify and inspire it for better performance. To me, the Redman icon is a fierce and courageous warrior whom I regard as a role model.

If the name is changed, we'll have to be very careful what it is changed to. Given today's hypersensitivity around being politically correct, perhaps we need names more like those of the fictional Harry Potter series: Hufflepuff, Griffindor, etc.

I am surprised that so many people are offended by the Redmen name. I believe that the original choice of the team icon was not intended to cause suffering for anyone but to celebrate diversity and pay homage to the courageous warriors who helped to keep Canada from becoming a part of the United States during the infancy for our great country.
