Re: Legal challenges pile up against pipeline, July 15
First Nations people who oppose the Northern Gateway oil pipeline in court are not only protecting their ancestral land, but the right of future generations of Canadians to clean water in our rivers, beaches that won’t be fouled with oil, and oceans that continue to give us food.
Now more and more of the rest of us are getting tired of dirty business as usual. The majority of citizens in Kitimat, the pipeline’s destination, recently voted to reject Northern Gateway. Tens of thousands of citizens throughout British Columbia are mobilizing to try to force a referendum on the pipeline.
Are Canadians approaching the point where environmental destruction can’t be explained away anymore just by saying it’s profitable?
