Controversy continues to brew on British Columbia's Salt Spring Island, where a property owner is building his home on top of a First Nations burial site on Grace Islet.
Provincial Minister Steve Thomson has stated that B.C. is doing what it can to ensure the landowner "works around" the burial sites, and that this is set out in permits, but some say those permits are being violated and that the development is not effectively monitored.
Protesters opposing the development travelled to the islet last week and surrounded the property in order to draw attention to the issue. The RCMP was called.
