Congratulations to Long Plains and your continuous efforts Chief Meeches to advance your community, you have completed the conversion to reserve status of Winnipeg's first Urban Reserve. In a city of over 700,000 people, this is a major accomplishment for your First Nation. To be right downtown is a huge accomplishment. Long Plains has pulled ahead of the other Treaty One First Nations in being what I predict will be the first and likely only Urban Reserve in Winnipeg for the next five years. The Winnipeg Free Press article written by Alexandra Paul two days ago was greeted by extreme racism in some of the over 500 comments made by readers to the Free Press website. The Free Press has a policy of blacking out and blocking the more extreme comments that are expression of hatred, not real commentary.

As the PM steels himself to return to the House for the first time since the Senate expense scandal broke -- that is, unless more pressing business keeps him away -- the Commons will start the day with a final round of debate on Liberal MP Judy Foote's bid to boost funding for, and access to the Last Post Fund, which provides support for funeral costs for veterans.
